While working largely within the confines of the existing footprint, the alterations to this Victorian Italianate Terrace in Glebe, reinvented the space entirely, celebrating the essence of the family home. A collaboration with Interior Designer Jillian Dinkel, Toxteth Terrace’s sympathetic intervention brought to life a harmonious relationship between old and new. The design included changes to the internal configuration with a small extension housing a built-in dining banquette that in turn created a lush internal courtyard and green roof at the core of the property. The existing lean-to extension at the rear was transformed by the addition of a new gable roof and raked ceiling that dramatically opened up the rear of the home bringing it into proportion with the rest of the home. The third floor was reimagined with the addition of an accessible roof terrace providing incredible city views.

“Jillian Dinkel & Interlock Design focus on balancing the old and new, injecting moments of deliberate boldness and drama to animate the experience of the home from within.”
- Bronwyn Marshall, The Local Project

"Aiming to integrate an expression of the owners’ personalities with the existing narrative of the home, Jillian Dinkel and Interlock Design open up the internal spaces, bringing in additional light and ventilation in the process.”
- Bronwyn Marshall, The Local Project

“A place that would have all the necessary trappings for contemporary life without sacrificing the charming idiosyncrasies that come with an older house”
- Carli Phillips, House & Garden
