Nestled in the heart of North Bondi, mirrored dwellings provide a coastal retreat, cascading down a tiered site. Once a classic set of compact semi-detached homes, now generous and functional family oases, two new three storey dwellings and detached cabanas. A contemporary take on a traditional form, prominent gables face the street. A soft material palette of Interlock’s own bricks, sand textured render and Norwegian Beech timber is cut by dark accents that give the dwellings a strong and distinctive presence. A curved micro cement and timber stairwell drives up through the home with the same Interlock bricks making a return internally, in the kitchen island, at the heart of the home. The central level hosts a series of living spaces opening up to a double height void and oversized sliding door to the rear garden with pool and cabana. The motif blue hues in direct reference to the coastal location are contrasted by warm timbers, textural micro cement and steel. A sophisticated take on coastal living, gracious detailing refines the modest material palette.
