Carefully balanced on a steep site, elevated above Paradise Beach, the moody tones of Avalon Beach House compliment the dense landscape. The design process thoroughly embraced the challenging natural terrain, favouring the views, to create a house that is both ensconced in the landscape and adequately elevated. The layout and structure directly reflects the site, falling in two directions, the house steps both in plan and elevation, sitting comfortably on the decline. A series of setbacks articulate the form with exaggerated eaves that soar over the landscape, bold and dramatic, yet effortless. Bringing a masculine edge, charred timber cladding and dark bricks create a simple material palette with a timeless quality. Possibly the greatest challenge, a suspended polished concrete slab to the entry level is also exposed to the ceiling below, allowing this structural masterpiece to be celebrated from all angles. To suitably complete the project, a special addition all the way from our talented team in Nepal, custom steel balustrades were handcrafted to adorn the facade’s balconies.
